Aristophanes' vicious, satirical attack on Socrates and his nebulous scientism is as relevant and funny today as it was two thousand years ago. When a rustic farmer tries to avoid paying his debts by becoming a philosopher, he unwittingly unleashes chaos on the city of Athens. Enticed by the false promises of the sinister Clouds he spurns his old way of life to join the pasty-faced students of Socrates' 'thinkery'. It soon becomes apparent, however, that in doing so he has debased himself and corrupted his son. Incorporating such diverse influences as the plays of Beckett and the sketches of Heath Robinson, masters of the Avant Garde, Ex-Productions, have given this hilarious and brutal farce an absurdist twist in an adaptation described simply as 'visually stunning' (Homer).
