The sister play to McGuinness's
Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Toward the Somme. The site of the battlefield is replaced by a Derry graveyard, the men of the 36th Division by seven characters in search of salvation, and the tragedy of the Somme by a backdrop of Bloody Sunday. Alongside the haunting memory of wounds, Carthaginians rings with anarchic humour and 'the wit and wisdom of Derry town' as they engage in yarns, quizzes and sexual confession crowned by the wicked humour of the play within the play.
