A bomb explodes in a crowded London shopping street. Nobody knows who the terrorists are, or their motives. Public intellectual Prof. Maggy Tanner has always advocated dialogue with the terrorists, but as she recovers from the blast outside, another bomb is detonated in her own family. Her long-estranged stepson turns up on her doorstep and a ticking clock of unresolved separations and family secrets thunders towards unwanted confrontations. A mother's love. A daughter's ambition.
