Brel archiveOne-man cabaret exploring the life and songs of Jacques Brel. Jacques Brel, born in Belgium, suffered the German occupation as a child during the Second world War. He started his singing career in the cafe bars of Pigalle in Paris during the fifties, becoming an international recording star and France's greatest singer poet. Anthony Cable tells his extraordinary story and sings his passionate songs. The evening consists of many of Brel's better known songs such as La Valse a Mille Temps, Jackie and La Port d'Amsterdam, as well as lesser known material. Anthony Cable sings both in French and English and links the songs with the story of Brel's inspirational journey of his life from an unknown twenty year old to this tragically early death at forty nine, at the height of his fame.
