Breaking Strain archiveIncestuous passion, neurotic virginity and a disastrous explosion of sexual power - these are the ingredients of the legend which inspired Euripides' Hippolytus and Racine's Phedre. Hippolytus, a young prince of extraordinary athletic prowess and bodily purity, despises women and sex. Aphrodite, goddess of love, wreaks a catastrophic revenge - by making his stepmother Phaedra fall in love with him. An appalling chain of events is unleashed. With an imaginative and colourful use of lighting, sound and music and an elegant visual design, Breaking Strain is a thoroughly modern and satirical reworking of the legend by Justin Butcher, whose play Scaramouche Jones toured the UK to great acclaim before showing in London. Warning: Breaking Strain features certain scenes of nudity, comic representation of sexual acts and some strong language and is not suitable for under-16s.
