A love story about two people who don't know how to love. Laid up with a slipped disc, bedding down in a rented room in New York with no plumbing and a broken window, Baylis gets through the day on painkillers washed down with Jack Daniels and beer. As he says, "its no Hollywood fucking story". Maybe if he got himself sorted out, he could do all the stuff he wanted to do - start writing again, finish his movie, get his guitar back. But he's got responsibilities - Froggy, his 19 year old girlfriend who he met when she was dancing on the runway at Harmony's. She needs someone to protect her from the black hole of her own addiction. She needs someone to tell her what to do. Buy her a bus ticket and send her back home to Michigan maybe. Blackbird presents us with a grimly compelling and ultimately doomed romance, shot through with moments of pure joy and tenderness that transcend the toxic lifestyles of two young lovers.
