Details
The story of two friends, Al and Birdy, who grew up together but become traumatised after fighting in World War II. Set in a mental wing of a military hospital, Sergeant Alfonso Columbato, himself recovering from wounds sustained in conflict, has been drafted in in an attempt to help the hospital authorities retrieve his boyhood friend, Birdy, from his catatonic state resulting from injuries, physical and mental, received during the Vietnam war. The play explores the nature of true friendship, male bonding and the power of the imagination.
