Bedbug: The Musical - National Theatre Shell Connections Festival 2004 archiveBedbug is a fable in the same way as Animal Farm and just as wonderful, original and dangerous. Ivan Varlet, a boozy mechanic and Party Member is trying to climb the bourgeoisie ladder by marrying a hairdresser, this ends disastrously with the guests fighting and the house being burnt to the ground. The fire brigade is too drunk to save them, but they manage to wash Ivan into the cellar where he is immediately frozen in a block of ice. Fifty years later he is thawed-out alive and displayed in a zoo as a specimen of what humanity was like before the glorious revolution.
