This adaptation of the reputedly oldest existing love letters in Western Europe, and the first autobiography, has been transformed into a witty surreal play by Tamsin Irwin. This story of an exceptional young female student and one of the most influential medieval philosophers scandalized Parisian society. The sensational repercussions of the affair have fascinated historians and artists since the letters were discovered in the 13th century. In this short play an unpredictable game-show host, in the fantastical Court of Love, questions the nature of their relationship. There will be pre-performance drinks from 6.45pm in the grounds of Glastonbury Abbey. Abelard & Heloise, Holy Guilty or Wholly Innocent is weather-proof, please be prepared for an assault by the elements and bring your own rug. Suitable for age 12+
