Details
In 1962 England, Vic Brown woos Ingrid Rothwell, a typist from the factory where he works. The pair begin a relationship but Vic soon realises that to him, Ingrid is just a conquest. Ingrid discovers she is pregnant with Vic's baby and he reluctantly proposes. They are forced into a marriage that neither is ready for and Vic doesn't even want. Then tragedy strikes and Ingrid loses the baby. Trapped by circumstance, the pair decide to settle for 'A Kind Of Loving'. Set against a backdrop of the bleak industrial north, A Kind Of Loving captures the heart and soul of West Yorkshire as it portrays a working class couple in a new genre of realism that was nicknamed 'Kitchen Sink Drama'. The story garnered critical acclaim for both the novel and the film version starring Alan Bates and June Ritchie.
