Rattigan's play takes a controversial look at the historical romance between Admiral Horatio Nelson and Lady Emma Hamilton. Now remembered as a relationship that gave Nelson a child and the love he needed to become a leader in battle; A Bequest to the Nation offers an alternative slant on this scandalous affair. Commemorating the Bicentenary of the Battle of Trafalgar, this play has not been performed since 1970 at the Haymarket, London.
