Kafka's terrifying tale of a man arrested and prosecuted by a remote, inaccessible authority, with the nature of his crime revealed to neither him nor the reader has lost none of its power down the years. The great American minimalist is now bringing his signature music and dramatic force to this literary classic. Working with Christopher Hampton as librettist, this new opera will wring every nuance of tension and paranoia from the story, as Josef K tries to confront the system. The Trial brings together two extraordinary minds - Philip Glass and Franz Kafka. Both masters of their craft, each with his own instantly recognisable style - somehow they are a perfect match. Ever since he read the Kafka as a teenager, Glass has cherished the idea of turning it into an opera. We hope you will share our anticipation and excitement as we wait to see how The Trial will be re-imagined.
