Details
Set in New York's Little Italy in the 1950s, this remarkable opera is tremendous piece of theatre full of visceral impact, exploring themes of faith and the failure of faith. The saintly Annina inspires reverence in those around her, not least her atheist brother Michele, who is obsessively devoted to his little sister. His lover Desideria accuses Michele of being in love with Annina and is stabbed in the back by him for her outburst. Michele, who has so far denied his sister her wish to take the veil, goes on the run but sneaks back to their apartment to discover Annina dying but a bride of Christ
