Details

From the shifting opening chords representing the depths of the Rhine, the musical and dramatic foundations are laid for this great saga of gods, dwarves, giants and mortals. The plaintive cry of the Rhinemaidens, Wotan's journey down to Nibelheim, Alberich's curse and the entry of the gods to Valhalla across the rainbow bridge are just the best-known of the many musical highlights in this epic work. In preparation for the Company's planned staging of a new Ring Cycle, ENO Music Director Paul Daniel conducts four concert performances of The Rhinegold. The rest of the cycle will follow in concert consecutively over the next two Seasons. Supported by a syndicate of individual donors.
