The story is a timeless tale set in ancient Rome, and follows the events which lead to the tragic violation of the chaste Lucretia by the young prince of Rome. Britten's music is beautiful, highly emotional and demonstrates incredible daring and innovation, including passages for drums and voice only, poignant solo instrumental writing and powerful ensemble sections. In association with the Aldeburgh Festival and the Britten Estate Ltd. Performance ends approx 22:30. Both performances will be filmed for television.
