The story is a timeless tale set in ancient Rome, and follows the events which lead to the tragic violation of the chaste Lucretia by the young prince of Rome. Britten's music is beautiful, highly emotional and demonstrates incredible daring and innovation, including passages for drums and voice only, poignant solo instrumental writing and powerful ensemble sections. Music Theatre Wales' approach to opera is direct and dramatic. Characterised by a refreshing and unpretentious approach, which clarifies the complex, and couples the gutsy drama with stunning visuals and exemplary musical performance.
