Details
A mother, haunted by suffering, visits her son, imprisoned for his political beliefs. The prisoner desperately tries to hang onto faith and hope, and believes the gaoler offers the prospect of a life of happiness and children beyond the prison walls. The freedom offered by his 'brother' is an illusion, and hope an unexpected torture. First performed in 1949. Supported by The John S Cohen Foundation.
