The Magic Flute features two love stories, a serpent, a Queen, a High Priest and a comedian, whose intrigues unfold to the beauty of Mozart's most popular opera score and Schikaneder's witty dialogue Using Hesketh-Harvey's translations of the arias, recently performed by Scottish Opera, Merry Opera's production provides a new setting and new spoken dialogue, by Kit Hesketh-Harvey. Part-pantomime, part-opera, this new production re-lives The Magic Flute's triumphant opening night in 1791. Mozart's fevered imagination creates a magical world for a cast of lofty divas and low comedians, as the shadowy forces of Freemasonry oversee events, and Mozart himself believes he is being poisoned...
