Details
This world premiere production brings together some of the world’s most revered musicians, theatre makers and poets, spanning generations and continents. For the first time in his illustrious career Seamus Heaney has allowed an operatic approach to one of his works. With Derek Walcott as Director, this is also the fi rst time two Nobel Prize-winning poets have worked together creatively on live music. The Burial at Thebes (previously seen as a play at the Oxford Playhouse in 2007) will be a rare opportunity to see the timeless story of Antigone, interpreted by such eminent artists. Thirteen musicians from Manning Camerata are joined by an international and multicultural cast of actors and singers from Europe, Africa and the Caribbean to bring Trinidadian composer Dominique Le Gendre’s score to life. A co-production between Manning Camerata, The Onassis Programme and Shakespeare’s Globe.
