The Bartered Bride archiveFirst performed in 1866 and set in a 19th Century Bohemian village this is the story of an arranged marriage and plenty of confusion as suitors are spurned and spurn in their turn. Smetana wrote five versions of this opera/operetta. Sung in English with surtitles. Running time 2 hours 45 minutes. Supported (1992) by The American Friends of Covent Garden and The Royal Ballet, Inc. There is a schools matinee performance of The Bartered Bride on Wednesday 14 November.
