Details

The Barbican presents three contemporary operas: Ainadamar by Osvaldo Golijov, Adriana Mater by Kaija Saariaho and Waiting for the Barbarians by Philip Glass. These three operas embrace the political darknesses - war, oppression, martyrdom, redemption - that haunt and disturb universally. Each portrays the individual, often in isolation, as subject to political and physical oppression and confronted with the challenge of survival.
