La Traviata - Written for the Carnival in Venice in 1853 the extraordinary musical and psychological journey that the heroine Violetta undertakes is a moving experience. Verdi's first season of the opera was not a great success with a cast that were far from ideal though eventually with a few changes to the score, and singers who were more suitably cast, the success of the work was assured.
