Details
Written in 1717, L'incoronazione di Dario is both comic and dramatic: around 500 BC the king of the Persians has just died and there are three candidates, including Dario, for the throne. Dario suggests that the crown should go to the successful suitor of Statira, eldest daughter of the late king. This tale of love, political rivalry and deceit unfolds in many beautiful arias of tremendous variety, surrounded with orchestral music which shows Vivaldi's great gift for colour and virtuosity.
