Details

Khovanschina was first performed in St Petersburg in 1886. Set at the beginning of Peter the Great's reign the opera pitches the old guard, typified by Prince Ivan Khovansky and the reactionary monk, Dosifei, against the desire of the new tsar. Running time 4 hours 20 mins.
