Details
Tchaikovsky's music is as powerful as any of his better known operas, full of typically Russian melodies, passion and spirit. The story is of a blind princess whose disability has been kept from her. Her well-intentioned father, King Rene, has decreed his daughter should never know she is blind, so surrounds her with people who conspire to maintain her state of ignorance. Eventually she learns the truth, along with the love which gives her the strength to overcome it, helping her gain the will to see. Sun in Russian with English surtitiles
