Details

The opera, based on a short novel by Georges Rodenbach, was premiered in 1920 and was one of the greatest hits of the 1920s, though it was subsequently banned by the Nazi regime because of Korngold's Jewish ancestry.Recently bereaved, Paul is haunted by visions of his deceased wife Marie. But when he meets the all-too-familiar Marietta, the lines between past and present blur, and reality itself is called into question. Moving on is impossible when presented with the implausible.
