The ancient story. Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, first performed in 1689, is inspired by Virgil's account of the myth which follows the burgeoning love of Aeneas, a Trojan prince, and the Queen of Carthage. The Hertfordshire Music Service and BBC Singers are proud to present this joint production of Purcell's dramatic masterpiece along with the period instrument group the St. James' Baroque Ensemble.
