Details
Written in 1714, a year in which he was establishing his reputation as the foremost opera composer in England, Amadigi belongs to the series of Handel's "magical" operas. The plot revolves around a fantastical tale of love and sorcery, as Amadigi's love for Oriana is thwarted at every turn by the evil ministrations of the witch Melissa and the jealousy of his rival Dardano, but true love is finally victorious after Amadigi kills Dardano, and Melissa kills herself. The work features some of Handel s most ravishing music, with one glorious aria following after another.
