The new born girl is laid on her mother's sari.- The time of birth is given to the temple priest. - There is a miscalculation in the horoscope chart. - As everything in an Indian woman's life depends on the star, there is drama, hysteria and absurdist comedy from day one! Pooja, meaning ritual or offering in Sanskrit, is a one woman show that draws on the rich tradition of ritual and story-telling in Asian theatre and a cultural heritage that includes Sri Lankan, Tamil, Hindu and Malaysian influences. The characters, matriarchs and victims, the confused and enlightened, comic and tragic are entrapped on a horoscope grid that becomes a hopscotch game of fate, chance and superstition.
