Details
To overcome loneliness and insomnia, a long-term patient of an asylum, along with his newly arrived room-mate (played by a member of the audience who willingly spends the duration of the performance on stage as foil, intimate and confidant), embark on an imaginary voyage in a gentle but ultimately pathetic attempt to resist illness and pain - a testimony to our perennial battle against fate. Inspired by and dedicated to the Greek myth of Icarus, who attempted to escape from ancient Crete by making a pair of wings of wax and feathers and then flying away, this production is a comical and touching retake on the desire to fly as a yearning for freedom. Fittingly,
Icaro was created by Pasca during a short sojourn in prison resulting from his refusal to serve an obligatory stint in the Swiss army. Icaro has since been performed in 15 countries and in six languages and was awarded the Premio Florencio for Best Foreign Performance in Uruguay in 1994.
