Esther, For Such A Time As This archiveDuring the reign of King Xerxes, the Jews were in exile in the land of Babylon, now ruled by the Medo-Persians. Esther, a beautiful Jewish maiden, was an orphan and had been brought up by her cousin Mordecai who worked in the household of the King. When Vashti was dismissed as the Queen, King Xerxes chose Esther on account of her beauty, unaware of her Jewish origins. Haman the Agagite elicited the King's favour saying that the Jews, who were scattered throughout the land, were a pernicious race. Xerxes conferred power and authority upon Haman to have the Jews killed. It was left to Esther to respond to her destiny and find a way to save her people. The Jews still commemorate their deliverance from death, each year, at the festival of Purim, on the 14th and 15th of Adar (February, March) King Xerxes' search, Mordecai's boldness, Haman's evil plan, and Esther's great courage. A wonderful story and now a wonderful new stage adaptation featuring a West End cast supported by the All Souls Orchestra. Esther, For Such A Time As This website.
