Details
Following on from the sell out success of last year's production of The Voyage of Lost Dreams, the company of Hampshire Youth Theatre 2013 presents a stunning adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic tale, Great Expectations. As a young man Pip wanted nothing more than to become a blacksmith's apprentice at Joe Gargery's forge. Chance encounters with three unforgettable characters transform Pip's life and ambitions forever; the escaped convict Magwitch, the eccentric and vengeful Miss Havisham, and her beautiful yet cold ward, Estella, for whom Pip develops unrequited feelings. While Pip is whisked away to London on the orders of a secret benefactor, he sacrifices true friendship in order to pursue his Great Expectations and a world of corruption, madness and mysteries is revealed. This production, inspired by the films of Tim Burton, combines physical theatre, puppetry and epic choral storytelling with a specially composed score to transform this most treasured tale into a thrilling Gothic fairytale.
