Details
A festival of Britten's work concentrating on his solo instrumental writing: the cello, inevitably, reflecting the extraordinary succession of works written for Rostropovich from the 1960s onwards; works for oboe, piano, harp, mostly written for special artists or occasions, and - of course - the tenor voice. In addition there is a performance of the 'Harmonia Sacra' pieces which were Britten's last completed work and a commissioned piece from David Sawer. The 'Nocturne' of 1958 stands at the centre of the Festival, bringing together some of the participants is one of the most evocative and poetic of all Britten's works. What better way could there be of spending a late autumn weekend in Aldeburgh.
