NITRO (formerly Black Theatre Co-operative) presents NITRObeat a full day of newly commissioned work, discussions and performances that aims to push back the boundaries of Black Music Theatre. For the first time, this year NITRObeat runs throughout the afternoon and into the evening, finishing up at 10pm. In the Foyer, jazz saxophonist extraordinaire Soweto Kinch (winner of the Montreux Festival Saxophone Competition and the BBC Jazz Rising Star Award) leads poets and musicians in a series of performances mixing jazz and the spoken word. Running alongside NITRObeat in London is The Next Passage, a seminar which will be the launch for a network for black artists and organisations across Europe. Attendees will come from across Europe and include leading lights in the black theatre world from across the UK. The seminar will be chaired by Trevor Philips and speakers include Bonnie Greer (writer, broadcaster), Jon Leerdam (Artistic Director Cosmic Theatre, Amsterdam) and Felix Cross (Artistic Director, NITRO). Further information (advance booking essential) is available from NITRO on 020 7609 1331, tnp@btc.dircon.co.uk
