Details
An exhilarating evening pays homage to George Balanchine, one of the greatest choreographers in the history of ballet. Revelatory performances from the dancers of the Mariinsky Ballet display their celebrated elegance and beauty in three of Balanchine’s inspirational, groundbreaking masterpieces of imagination and originality. Serenade is a milestone in the history of dance, a magical fusion of Balanchine’s choreographic genius with Tchaikovsky’s poetry and drama. Rubies, the witty central section of Balanchine’s sparkling three-act ballet Jewels, was inspired by the brilliance of the gemstone and by Stravinsky’s vibrant, jazzy score. The final work in this wonderful evening is a setting of Bizet’s effervescent Symphony in C in which the great Balanchine achieved a brilliant symbiosis of dance and music.
