Details
Exploring the depth and emotional range of Sir Kenneth MacMillan's choreography, this triple bill focuses on a major revival of Rituals, created for The Royal Ballet in 1975 and inspired by Japanese ceremonies centred on battle, marriage and childbirth. Concerto, containing one of MacMillan's most remarkable and lyrical pas de deux, is a plotless ballet to music by Shostakovich. Inspired by Vera Brittain's Testament of Youth, Gloria is a powerful and deeply moving tribute to the war generation, elegiacally mourning the millions of lives lost in the trenches. Concerto (Shostakovich, Second Piano Concerto, Opus 102), Rituals (Bartok, Sonata for 2 Pianos and Percussion) and Gloria (Poulenc, Gloria in D Major)
