UK Premiere. A couple are stranded in the Australian outback, with a car that won't start, next to a phone box that doesn't work, and their water is running out. They only have each other. Then someone quite unwelcome arrives...Created by Splintergroup, with Brisbane Powerhouse and Dancenorth, this stunning, unsettling piece is a manic ride down the highway of misconceptions about the heart of Australia. Using unorthodox, amazingly irregular movement and intense drama, roadkill is part road movie, part excavation into the urban legends and paranoia that surround the outback?a place where backpackers disappear and the ghosts of original land owners and lost explorers still haunt the bush. Splintergroup was formed in 2004 by a group of performers who first met at Australian Dance Theatre. Having already achieved success as individual choreographers and dancers, their first collective piece, lawn, received international acclaim. Presented by Brisbane Powerhouse and Dancenorth. In association with Sasha Waltz and guests. Supported by The Australia Council for the Arts. Run time 75mins/no interval.
