Royal Ballet of Flanders - Not Strictly Rubens archiveThe Royal Ballet of Flanders has for more than 30 years been the flagship of classical ballet in Flanders, and now enjoys the distinction of being the only classical dance company in Belgium. The double bill Not Strictly Rubens links ballet with the visual arts. Inspired by the linear compositions of Mondrian, Syposium was set for the company by New York choreographer Christopher d'Ambrose to music by Leonard Bernstein. As a counterpoint to this neoclassic work, Rubens is conceived by Flemish choreographer Marc Bogaerts as a metphor for creative man and the act of creation. The piece brings together an apt team of cutting edge professionals including pop and dance phenomenom Praga Khan, who have been commissioned to create a new score, the Antwerp fashion king Walter Van Beirendonck and the French lighting and stage designer Philippe Arlaud.
