Resolution! is The Place's annual festival of new works presented by a range of diverse emerging dance-artists.
Wolf - An invitation to wilfully stray into the fascination, hunger and fear of a fairytale so familiar it runs through us like a current. Wolf, Grandmother and Girl flicker, emerge and retreat in an unsettling dance played out in the body of exceptional performer Rachel Dean. An immersive and sensual solo which embraces the complexities and fluidities at the heart of each of us. Live sound score by accomplished improviser Seth Bennett on double bass, and haunting live vocals.
Holi Woman - The Holi Woman dwells between Eastern and Western notions of ritual and beauty. Choreographer Jodie Cole explores the ethereal thread that links the two. India, a country of ritual, colour, chaos and contradictions. Britain, a land of riches and achievement, depression affecting a fifth of the population. The dilution of ritual in the West, stripped to yearly celebrations of birthdays, perhaps marking one's death or a union of love, in contrast to the daily devotional, and potentially meaningless, myriad of collective rituals of India. I find myself caught between the two; a sense of wonder and a rooted nihilism. This solo explores the possible unity between the two, a golden thread we perhaps bury deep below ritualistic ceremonies and unconscious habits.
