Rambert Dance Company - Songs of a Wayfayer/Five Brahms Waltzes in the Manner of Isadora Duncan/Linear Remains/Swamp archiveBritain's biggest and most exciting touring dance company who often tour two programmes at a time. Dancing to a mixture of musical styles they provide enormously watchable evenings. Songs of a Wayfayer - created by Kim Brandstrup is an evocative work for seven dancers which explores the complex emotions associated with unrequited love. It is danced to Mahler's achingly beautiful song-cycle of the same title, which is performed live. Five Brahms Waltzes in the Manner of Isadora Duncan - is presented to mark the centenary year of Rambert's founding choreographer, Sir Frederick Ashton. Duncan was a pioneer of the modern dance movement and each short 'waltz' represents a different facet of her personality. Linear Remains - by Associate Choreographer Rafael Bonachela, bodies intertwine, creating angular patterns of mesmerising complexity and movement that fizzes with tension and energy. Swamp - clearly demonstrates his classical background, but this only acts as a foundation for his unique originality and inventiveness. The title comes from the play Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf? in which Martha refers to her husband as 'Swampy'. Rambert Dance Company website.
