Rambert Dance Company - Programme 1 - She Was Black/The Parades Gone By archiveBritain's biggest and most exciting touring dance company who often tour two programmes at a time. Dancing to a mixture of musical styles they provide enormously watchable evenings. Mats Ek's She Was Black is a gritty and erotic exploration of modern relationships, shot through with dark, quirky humour. Passionate duets of balletic grace and strength are punctuated by sequences of wild abandon, sending 11 dancers leaping, diving and spinning across the stage in a breath-taking display of athleticism. Lindsay Kemp's The Parades Gone By, is a theatrical parody on the golden days of Hollywood. Set in a derelict film studio, a deranged director revisits his memories by lovingly conjuring up a galaxy of ghostly stars in a series of dream-like sequences from his films. As Valentino, Dracula, Marlene, and Fred and Ginger, to name a but few, emerge from the darkness, their creator becomes more and more entangled in his own fantasies, until they run out of his control.
