Celebrating its 45th Anniversary in 2000, Paul Taylor Dance Company continues to combine the classical and the contemporary, presenting some of the most exciting and accessible performances in the history of dance. Programme Two features
Roses, a gorgeously romantic piece set to Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll and Heinrich Baermann’s Adagio for Clarinet and Strings.
The Word is a study in group conformity, set to music specially composed by David Israel. The cast of 12 dancers, clad in black and white school uniforms, are challenged by an enigmatic, irreverent figure intent on wreaking havoc with the status quo.
Black Tuesday, set to songs from the Great Depression, has a ragamuffin band of dancers creating a montage of images from the poverty stricken 30s, and illustrates a nation’s courage in the face of the harshest of circumstances.
