Tuplet - Alexander Ekman is largely viewed as one of the most exciting choreographers on the international dance scene today. Tuplet uses wit and meticulous use of rhythm and timing to create a fun and uplifting experience for everyone involved. The dancers create their own percussive score which combines with an electronic soundscape featuring snippets of jazz and big band, meaning they can show off their versatility while projecting their individual personalities.
Mythology - Stephen Shropshire's work is set to an avant-garde composition for piano, jazz ensemble and spoken word, and features powerful group movement sequences that are crafted to mind boggling detail, with a genius of construction. Shropshire wanted to explore how the movement could push the dancers' physicality beyond its limits, harnessing the energy and power of the group to go further, creating something even more intensive. It's an incredible and mesmerising piece of dance to watch.
Purlieus - Lee Johnston's piece, created in collaboration with lighting designer Joe Fletcher combines movement, light and animation to draw the audience in to what's happening on stage as an immersive experience. As the dancers move in and between boundaries of light, the audience is asked to relate their own experiences to what they see playing out on stage. They Seek To Find The Happiness They Seem is an exploration of the separation and disconnection that can occur within a relationship. It uses reconfigured snippets of imagery from popular culture that connect with us all on a subconscious level. These almost unrecognisable fragments play with our memory to instil a sense of disconnect in us, pulling us closer to the central theme at the heart of the work.
