Contemporary dance group. Danses Concertantes - The programme opens with one of Stravinsky's most popular scores. Filled with wit and radiance, Danses Concertantes is a vivacious choreographic exploration of a delightful neo-classical score. The Bird Sings with its Fingers (World Premiere) - Inspired by Jean Cocteau's film Orphee, The Bird Sings with its Fingers is a modern re-working of the classical Orpheus myth. Leading British composer Julian Anderson will create a series of sharply contrasted, brilliant and intense studies in orchestral colouring. The choreography will be highly inventive, combining humour and violence to portray the seductress Death as she draws her victims to the underworld. The State (National Premiere) - The programme is completed by Mark Baldwin's interpretation of Dutch composer Louis Andriessen's rarely performed post-modern masterpiece The State. A combination of austere simplicity and powerful emotion draw the evening to an unforgettable end.
