Liz Lea and Marie-Gabrielle Rotie unite their distinctive movement languages to present an evening of East and West. Inspired by Butoh, Classical Indian dance and contemporary dance these two very different performers present an evening of duets and solos. ‘Flying Chair for Da Vinci’ is Rotie's dark expressionist fairytale solo combining Butoh, vocal work, magical props and film. In ‘Mugam’s Secret’ Liz explores a secret language expressing forbidden desires through Classical Indian and contemporary dance. They unite for the London premiere of ‘Refract’, a duet of distortions and spillages, sculpted by the forces of light and film. Liz Lea and MG Rotie have toured nationally and internationally and for ‘Refract’ they are joined by filmmaker Lucy Baldwyn, who recently received a Dance for Camera/BBC commission.
