La Sylphide is the story of a young Scotsman, James, whose mind is divided. He does not feel at home with the world he is about to bind himself to by marrying Effy. He dreams of another world, of which the Sylphide is a symbol. She lures James away from his wedding and the outcome of his liaison with the Sylphide is tragic.
