A fast moving celebration of the triumph of young love over the misguided plotting of others. The predicament of the innocent lovers Lise and Colas, the comic antics of Alain and the hilarious meddling of Widow Simone create some of the most memorable and technically challenging set pieces in the classica repertoire. 1st performance of this production Royal Opera House 28 January 1960.
