Kathakali originated in Kerala South India over 500 years ago. It is a spectacular combination of drama, dance, music and ritual. Characters with vividly painted faces and elaborate costumes re-enact stories from Hindu epics. It‘s winter…the shortest day of the year and in a clearing in a forest stands a lone tree. The forest creatures are gathering for a special moment. A moment when everything is transformed. Each has a story to tell and a gift to bring. It’s time to huddle up, tell stories, sing songs and wait... Combining storytelling, puppetry and song this is a story which celebrates our forest friends, the turn of the year and the season of good cheer. Kathakali website.
