Jack, a candle maker, is forced to give up work. At sixty years old he is not yet ready for retirement and he soon realises that older people get a pretty raw deal all round. He decides to try out his secret ambitions as a performer and, after one or two false starts, enlists the help of his daughter and her husband in devising a show for old people's homes. Crazy acrobatics, songs, tap-dancing and live music combine with brilliant design to create a funny and touching salute to the resilience and resourcefulness of older people. Specially designed for older audiences. The production will be accompanied by workshops and forms the core of Green Candle's London-wide two year research and training project: Dance Upon the Level Shore, which promotes health and attempts to combat isolation for older people through engagement in dance and movement.
