Now in its third year, A Feeling for Practice is firmly established as a must-see for anyone wishing to gain insights from top dance artists about creative processes in dance. This year the focus is on the impact of training. Dancers train long and hard to attain the skill and artistry they need to reach the peak of their profession but how do particular training techniques equip dancers for different types of work? How do choreographers use and develop training techniques to ensure that their dancers have the tools needed for the work being created? Jeannie Steele, a dancer for many years with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, and Gill Clarke, highly respected dance artist and teacher, will explore these questions from two very different points of view. Dancers, both live and on film, will illustrate their presentations. Facilitated by Dick McCaw, this is a rare opportunity to understand the inner workings of dance, and promises to be entertaining and revealing.
